A few week-ends back I had made arrangements with my daughter-in-law to go over to see my new grand-daughter, Clara.

Not wanting to go empty handed I set off round the shops, in a suburb of London, to find a baby gift for a new baby. Anything, I thought, than just another baby grow as I wanted something more personal. Into one shop after another to find that baby gift with a difference, nothing to be found other than all the usual unexciting clothes, toys etc.

I had in mind a first piggy bank with Clara's name on, into which I could put a cheque for her savings account. In five shops I could not find what I wanted so I finished up with the usual baby grow.
